Cockroaches came what they would do. What steps to take if cockroaches appeared in the room.

Causes of pest survival

Cockroach: description, characteristics, structure
Cockroaches are characterized by a flat body with an oval shape, with a length of 1 to 10 cm or more. The elongated abdomen in the cockroach consists of 8-10 tergites (dorsal sclerotized segments) and 7-9 sternites (abdominal sclerotized segments), 7 in women, 8-9 in men. At the end of the abdomen are long, usually jointed cerci. In men, the last 1-2 lead. Usually cockroaches have a light body color with an elytra of tan, dark or black color is less common.

The cockroach elytra is dense, horny or leathery, with pronounced venation. The hind wings are equipped with membranes and hide under the elytra when folded.

In some species, the anterior and posterior wings are shortened, and there are also wingless cockroach species.

In total, the cockroach has 6 legs. The hips and legs are knitted.

In addition, it is almost impossible to catch a cockroach with bare hands, as a quick insect changes direction about 25 times per second.

A cockroach's flat head may be triangular or heart shaped.

Pronotum almost flat, shield-shaped, quite large, in many species with transparent edges.

The mouth is turned down.

A cockroach's eyes are large, there are two simple eyes, in wingless cockroaches they often disappear, in cave species they are completely absent.

The sensitive whiskers of insects are quite long, sometimes exceeding the body length, setea-like, multi-segmented, covered with many microscopic bristles.

The external reproductive organs of the male cockroach are represented by the sex plate formed by the Ninth Sternite.

Women are equipped with a hidden ovipositor and ooteca - a special protein capsule designed for bearing offspring.

A cockroach is one of the hardest insects, which can starve for a month without any health damage. But under favorable conditions and due to the properties of the oral apparatus, cockroaches eat anything that is poorly hidden. A female cockroach eats 30 to 50 g of different foods per day, men are not so skinny and eat twice less.

A cockroach is a nocturnal insect and goes out in search of food with the onset of darkness, and the "party" continues until dawn, to a greater extent because cockroaches do not eat as much as they eat different foods, and find the most delicious for themselves with sampling method.

Favorite foods for cockroaches are all bakery products, sugar and all kinds of sweets, meat products and cereals in third place, and various vegetables and fruits, and all freshness, complement the list of preferences. In the absence of food products, cockroaches are satisfied with paper, carpentry and shoe glue, book bindings, fabrics, various debris and organic material.

Where do cockroaches live?
Cockroaches are distributed almost everywhere and live in almost every part of the world, with the exception of freezing Antarctic and other polar regions. Most populations live in the tropics and subtropical latitudes, although these insects do not feel less comfortable in the temperate zone. Cockroach Control in Bangladesh, in Europe, in Russia, in Africa and Asia, in Australia. In countries with a fairly cool climate and frosty winters, mainly synanthropic species live in heated human housing.

In nature, cockroaches prefer to settle in shady places with constantly high humidity: they hide in the thickness of fallen leaves, under semi-decomposed wood, "party" where there is an accumulation of rotten fruits or vegetables, and often live in beautiful vegetation along shallow water bodies. Sinanthropus cockroaches often equip their nests in ventilation shafts and drainage channels in multi-storey buildings, in basements, in cracked walls and behind baseboards; they like city dumps and garbage.

How to distinguish a female cockroach from a male?
Below are photos to help you determine the gender of the cockroach.

  • Argentinian cockroach (Blaptika dubia) - male on the left and female on the right
  • Marble cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea - male from below, female from above

Is there a white cockroach?
Sometimes in a regular apartment among typical cockroaches, you can see fairly non-standard albino cockroaches. Many wonder: is a white cockroach a separate species? Not at all. An insect may have such a color during melting, when the old shell has already been discarded, and the new chitinous shell has not yet received pigmentation. Another reason for "bleaching" a cockroach can be disinfectant with toxic chlorine, which destroys the dye pigment.
